Is Intuit Link a good secure portal option for clients?

I just reviewed the information for Intuit Link.

For those of you who use this feature - is it a good option for clients to upload their tax information? Have you experienced problems using this feature?

Thanks for your feedback.

Is it secure?  You can trust that it's probably as secure as it should be since Intuit has a big stake in this.

Is it good?  That's a matter of personal opinion and it all depends on what you need for your practice.  What is good for me may not be good for you and vice versa.

Intuit Link is a capable client portal but it is basic and rigid.  If all you need is a secure medium to collate data and documents for tax preparation, it should be good enough for you.

If you need something more sophisticated, like having some control over how you manage your workflow as well as the organization of the portal, you'll be disappointed.  In other words, don't expect the bells and whistles you find in portals you have to pay to subscribe to.

It's good that you seem to have played with Intuit Link before creating this post.  If you decide to proceed, you should seriously think about spending more time testing its functionalities both as the accountant and a client.  For one, you will likely need to tweak your process somewhat to integrate Intuit Link with your workflow.  You will also need to get quite familiar with Intuit Link as it is inevitable that you will need to help diagnose your clients' problems when they contact you.

You should also not treat that as your repository for client data and documents because your access to it is contingent on you having a current subscription.  The last I checked, it is also not their standard T&C to help you recover files that you or your client accidentally delete.  While you can now still access prior year data and documents in Intuit Link, Intuit may archive those prior years at some point (with advance notice).  In other words, make sure you download and backup your data and documents periodically.
