How do you e-file a PA return for a joint return when the spouse died in 2020. Only the husband had the income, no income for spouse. It asks for a PIN# for the PA-8879 form for the spouse. If I file a return for the husband only, doesn't a final return have to be filed for the wife? Husband qualified for the tax forgiveness credit.

I believe you can now file a joint return in year of death for one spouse, Pa changed old rule several years ago. I think you also have to put the deceased taxpayer as the primary taxpayer on the PA 40, ie listed first
