That is a fair question, but I don't think you are going to receive an answer other than they are trying their best to get things going.  I am a relatively patient person, but I have to admit I would have lost my patience long ago if I was an Alabama preparer.

The President of the Alabama Society of CPS sent an email dated 02/19/2019. Our Alabama society contacted the Alabama Department of Revenue ("ADOR")and informed the ADOR about software vendor issues and delays in being able to print and file Alabama returns.

ADOR replied, "the ADOR is notifying any vendors with unapproved bar code submissions that they are free to print the forms without the bar code. The ADOR still needs the cooperation and continued attention of the software vendors to correct bar code errors.

I telephoned ProSeries yesterday (02/20/2019) and read the email to them. I was unsuccessful in obtaining and helpful information about this matter. Originally we were told by ProSeries Alabama would be ready the week of 10/21/2019 … it was later moved back to 10/28/2019. Needless to say I know of many dissatisfied Alabama CPAs. ProSeries is damaging our client relations.

Thank you for the information!!!  I see the Alabama forms can now be printed without watermarks for our clients.  (no bar code)  Does anyone know if the Form 40V can be sent in without the bar code?  I have some old fashioned clients who want to mail in a check....
