Stop POP up Adds

did anyone ever get the answer to how to stop the pop up adds on the right side of the screen?

every now and then I get a window that asks if I want to close it permanently, and if I click YES it disappears for awhile but it seems to come back after an update or three...so I dont have a sure fire way to get rid of it.
