I think this would be the process to correct your situation

1) file an amended return (using the 2yrs old SSN) changing everything to zero    

2) file a return for the client     You shouldn't be able to efile because it should reject with message that 2yr old SSN is already on another return but I'd try - see what happens.  If rejects, paper file.
