I have a client that claims the children for EIC and head of household ex husband gets them as dependents i have everything entered that way but it keeps telling me i have to claim them. i know there has to be a way shes done it for years

Check the code that you are using in the dependent section of the federal information worksheet.

 why cant i add the child i had to use for head of house hold i used code Q is it suppose to be another code?

I'm not sure I follow.

Just enter the child in the dependent entry table, code it as E and Q. That gives the custodial parent HOH, EITC and Child Care Credit, and leaves the CTC/ACTC for the non-custodial parent claiming the child as a dependent.
