990EZ final return

I'm having trouble filing a 990-EZ final return for 2 months of 2022.  I need to file it on 2021 forms because 2022 forms are not out yet and the return will be due before the forms will be released even on extension.  The software will not let me file two 2021 990 returns for the same company, even though its checked final.  The IRS says it must go electronically, if we mail it in, it will be mailed back.  What do you do in this case?

You can file an extension and hope the 2022 software will be ready by the extended due date.

Or file on paper with an explanation and hope it is accepted.
