Can a surviving spouse tax return be filed electronically? What documents need to be attached outside of the normal documents?

My client's spouse died Feb 2018. I have all of the documents, including death certificate.

Nothing needed, assuming you are filing as a Married Filing Joint return. Keep the death certificate, it does not need to be attached. IRS works off of the Social Security death records, so they should already know of the death.

This is from Lacerte, but still applies.
