I have researched to see how to file the status of residency for a client who moved to Costa Rica in late 2021 and has lived abroad for the whole year of 2022. On the client information tab would I just leave the resident status box unchecked. They are required to file a 1040 us return and have no income earned in Costa Rica. They have provided a US address but we are requesting a copy of their Driver's License to verify current mailing address.

US citizen or resident alien (green card holder)?
I'm not sure the driver's license is an accurate indicator of current address.
