email fraud phishing

I was one of the people who received that email that was posted that was a phishing email from Kevin Smith. I spent an hour trying to get answers if this was a legitimate email.

I would have liked to get a direct number to talk to someone!

As we all are tax preparers and this is not the time to for me to spend an hour trying to get some answers. Catherine

I received a similar email recently as well.  I put no merit into it because of the different fonts and font sizes used in the body content and the email address was something like "intuitfrauddept.com" which just didn't seem like a domain that Intuit would have created.  

My EA was also concerned because she found Kevin Smith as a reputable Intuit Fraud specialist online!  These phishing scams are getting better and better by the day.

We get at least 3 or 4 "new client" email inquiries which are scams, offering to send us their prior year tax return and current docs and data unsolicited.  If these scammers put half of the effort into a legit career as they do into these attempts to steal data they would be so successful!

What I find concerning... how do those phishing know you are an Intuit customer ??????

They don't necessarily know that but when you go fishing you never can tell what you are going to catch when you start trolling the waters.

As a side note, if I thought there was a remote chance that it could be legit, I would have tried e-filing a return.  If it transmitted, obviously I wasn't shut down by Intuit.

Never click on a link on ANY email (unless you triggered the email, such as a "forgot password" situation).

If there is ANY chance the email is legitimate, CALL the company based on a reliable telephone number (not the phone number in the email).
