Additional Child Tax Credit not calculating in 2020 program

I have a client who qualifies for the Additional Child Tax Credit but it's not being calculated on form 8812. My program has been updated to the latest release but that didn't fix the problem. Her return looks exactly like it did in 2019 (and the credit calculated on form 8812 in 2019) so I'm not sure why the credit isn't being calculated for 2020.

It is working for me, so maybe one of these thoughts will help:

  1. I assume Line 6a is over $2500, right?
  2. Have you gone through the error-check/review to clear all errors?
  3. Is there anything semi-unsual with the return, such as ITINs?
  4. Have you verified the child is showing up as a dependent on the 1040?
  5. Child was under age 17 at the end of 2020 (check the birthdate)?

Are you sure the client would use the ADDITIONAL Child Tax Credit, rather than it all being applied to the 'regular' Child Tax Credit?  Is the full credit (usually $2000 per child) showing up on Line 19 of Form 1040?

There's no tax liability so she wouldn't get the child tax credit, only the ACTC. But line 7 on the 8812 won't populate. It shows her earned income on line 6a of the 8812 but then nothing on line 7 or 8.

Oh my gosh I just realized I was mixing up the ACTC with the Other Dependent Tax Credit and the Other Dependent credit is non refundable so she doesn't qualify. I'm sorry I wasted your time but I appreciate you helping me out!

No problem!  We all have those times when we get mixed on things.  Don't hesitate to come back!
