Name/Social Security Number mismatch

My client confirms his name and social are correct, but the return keeps getting rejected. Is there any way for me to check what's wrong or does he have to contact Social Security?

Does the person have multiple middle or last names? Sometimes the name IRS has as "last", isnt the one you think.

Do you have the SS Card?

He doesn't have his actual card. He does have a two-part last name, but swears that he's efiled before using the name he gave me.

You have a copy of the previous year return correct?   Does it match what you have on this return?

I don't have his previous return, but I've just requested it from him. I'll see if I can figure out what's different! Thanks for the help.

Well, you were right! I filed with just the last part of his name, and it was accepted! Thanks for the suggestion.
