Form 8949 and e-filing

Does ProSeries automatically e-file form 8949 when it is required?
Such as when:

  • The sales category for one or more summaries is something other than box A (short-term covered) or box D (long-term covered), or
  • The box A or box D summary includes adjustments (typically listed in boxes 1f or 1g on your broker statement)

I found this on website for TurboTax that if e-filing you need to manually attach and wondering if the same for Proseries. I sure hope ProSeries automatically e-files this form if any of the above conditions are true. It certainly has the required information to make that decision.

Yes ProSeries files F8949 if completed in a return.  You must have completed Sched D information to flow to F8949.    Look at the forms included in the filing copy of the tax return - that is what IRS will receive.

If the return only had covered sales with no wash, and you input the totals in the top summary boxes of the 1099B worksheet, no 8949 will be include, nor is it required to be.
