E-filing a return when dependent has a green card

Can anyone tell me how to still e-file when a dependent only has a green card and no social security number? Do I disable conversion error checking (due to no SSN in the SSN field) and attach a copy of the green card as a pdf? Or is there another way that I am not aware of.  I'm thinking that it still won't go through. Thanks in advance!

They need an ITIN or SSN in order to Efile a return.

Why dont they have any number?

Thank you! A response to an earlier query told me that I can e-file with a green card, but I didn't think this was true.

The taxpayer is a woman who is a physician that worked 7 days a week during Covid and still works quite a lot. She applied for the social security number for her mother whom she is claiming as her dependent, but I don't think she did it correctly or hasn't followed through with it and just doesn't have the social security number at this time. She is clearly super busy, but says she is going to follow through and get the social security number. Now I have to get the poor woman to come back to sign the paper file ughhhhh!
