Our client had one successful adoption, and one failed adoption. The failed adoption does not have a SSN. There are no errors in the system coming up. But with such a big tax credit, we just want to be sure before it gets e-filed.

I would check the irs.gov website for documentation. In the past I believe a return with the adoption credit had to be mailed in. That was years ago I believe.
