recreate their original return. I spent an hour and still don't have it correct.
Is there any easier way?
I am about to tell them that they should go back to TurboTax and amend it there and that I will help them.

If you want to e-file the amended return, you pretty much need to enter it from scratch If you want to paper file, you can just enter totals in the various forms until it matches up with the botched return and then make the corrections after clicking on the 1040X form.
