1098T AOTC

MGC94
Level 7

Taxpayers' dependent is a graduate student.

They never claimed AOTC for his bachelors degree (first 4 years).

Is it possible for me to amend the last 3 years claiming the AOTC even though it was his masters/doctorate.

dependent has no income and lives with his mom and he/she has never claimed his 1098t before.

The 1098t is marked as a graduate student for 2020-2023. Tuition being over $50K. Or is it only lifetime learning and they missed out. (I was not the previous preparer).

Thank you

AOTC can only be claimed if student had not completed four years of post-secondary school as of January 1st of the year you are doing.

Lifetime Learning has different rules and your client may qualify for that.
