AL Form 40 Sch A Charitable Deductions

On a clients Alabama Form 40 Sch A - charitable deductions are not calculating correctly. Taxpayer has made a payment to a Scholarship Granting Organization and received an AL Tax Credit for the payment. The contribution has not been entered on the Federal or State Schedule A as a charitable contribution and therefore there should not be a deduction in the amount of the credit on the AL Form 40 Sch A Charitable Deductions.

For example - Form 1040 Schedule A Charitable is $15,000 (does not include any payments made to Scholarship Granting Organizations-SGO). AL Form 40 Schedule A is calculated at $14,000 - this is not correct since the donation to the SGO was never deducted as a charitable contribution.

Is there a way to override this? A few months ago, the support staff was less than helpful and actually understood the application of the tax code and preparation of the form.
