Changing email address associated with Intuit Link

rzamloot

It seems there is an issue changing the email address associated with an Intuit Link client.  In association with a Lacerte support representative, I wanted to and did in fact change the email address (to that of the client spouse), the result of which was to delete the 2021 organizer questions as well as delete the (prior years) documents that I had uploaded for client access.

I then changed the email address back to the original, re-invited the client and then the documents reappeared.  The 2021 organizer questions however, did not reappear.

I want to suggest that an enhancement be made to allow for a change to the email address associated with an Intuit Link client without any changes made to any of the Link history.

Intuit Link needs so many updates but the main ones would be; easier way to change e-mail addresses that actually works and to be able to delete old client accounts.

Agreed. It should be simple to change an email address to where to send the Intuit Link. Had an engaged couple for 2021, married in 2022, wife handles the taxes, created a new tax return using husband though and cannot change from the husband's email to the wife. Frustrating.

Thanks for posting this.  I also encountered this and my client, who has used Link for several year, and I just gave up and came up with work arounds for everything.

Same situation: client had to change a hacked email account.  I got messages that I had to make changes in Link to agree with the new one in the client info in Lacerte.  I have a second Link account because my firm name changed with my business partner retired.  I had to change it in there as well.  At that point I could re-invite, but the questionnaire and engagement letter didn't attach.

One of the reasons I don't encourage clients to use Link.

This is incredibly frustrating. Why can't we edit the email and resend all those cool Link tools yet?   Warning- I tried deleting the prior LINK request. Then Deleting the entire 2022 Tax return. Recreating the 2022 tax return. Updating the email, refreshing clearing cookies and cache etc. confirming it. then Creating the New Link and and Link still somehow REVERTS BACK to the wrong email. And this is my First year using Link.  Although I do use Esign if that is somehow a factor?  I am not content with having to go back and delete all the historically filed taxes just to get the organizer out or sending a pdf. I hope this gets more attention and updated.

@egrowth_source The fundamental issue is that your client's account for LINK is not manged by you.  As with any Intuit services, such as T U R D O T A X, the LINK account is owned by your client.  Your invite for LINK is merely a means to connect your account to your clients'.

If you client's email address for LINK needs to be changed, that's an account change that needs to be initiated by your client instead of you.

Intuit deliberately designs Intuit LINK in a way they retain most of the control and that's why many have moved away from LINK to use genuine client portals.

That makes some sense. however the only reason we need to change it is when the client can't get to it. It's quite inefficient for ProConnect tax users who send these out 200 at a time.. I am a Sharefile portal user who just tried LInk this year.

That's usually what happens.  Your client should be able to reset the password or if he/she no longer has access to the email address, he/she should contact Intuit in the first instance to try to recover the account somehow.

Link should be associated with the client's social security, full stop.  Social security is a constant and will tie to the tax return, so link could actually be used.  We should also be able to delete old client accounts who have passed or are no longer clients and "Link" should change their name to something that isn't annoying to try and search for, when googling for answers.  The list is long but attaching the link account to social and deleting clients would be amazing.  And yes, I have already sent these items to Inutit.
