UI. Lacerte Solution has a flaw

Yesterday's Intuit Alert posted a solution for the UI issue, which is copied below. @IntuitAlicia Alicia please let me know if I am wrong or if there is a solution to the flaw I think I have found.

Unfortunately, the SSN for the amended return must be all 9's so that REP charges are not incurred. Doing this will disallow the Recovery Rebate Credit and other credits.  So this solution has a flaw.

Thanks you for taking the time to listen.

This is the solution is yesterday's alert:

Follow these steps to review your return:

  1. Highlight the existing client file.
  2. From the Client dropdown menu, select Copy (or Ctrl+C)
  3. In the copied file, go to Screen 59, Amended Return (1040-X)
  4. Mark Federal and any applicable states for amendment
  5. Go to Screen 3, Miscellaneous Info./Direct Deposit
  6. Mark the box for Apply the American Rescue Plan Act provisions

This will apply the new provisions to the existing file, allowing you to review the return with the changes applied in order to help you decide whether or not an amended return should be filed for your client.
