Lacerte requires Windows 10 for 2019 tax program

Lacerte will require Windows 10 for the 2019 tax program due to Microsoft no longer supporting Windows 7, but what if you bought the Extended Service Unit from Microsoft per their website.  "As of January 14, 2020, Microsoft will no longer be providing support or security updates for Windows 7 -- apart from for those who are willing to pay for it. The company is offering up to three years of Windows 7 Extended Security Updates (ESU), and pricing has just been revealed"

That wouldn't change any vendor's decision to not support for Windows 7.  As Microsoft clearly states on their own website, the "Extended Security Update (ESU) program is a last resort option for customers who need to run certain legacy Microsoft products past the end of support."  It is not meant to be a platform on which new software would be run, not even Microsoft's own products.

Having said that, you might be able to install and run Lacerte 2019 (and other new software) on Window 7 but they just won't get any support if you run into problems.

Since you can't test that until next year when the 2019 version is released (and there will be subsequent update that Windows 7 may or may not support), you may be taking a bit of a gamble in case things don't work out mid-seas and you have to scramble to upgrade all your machines.

Someone said they're still able to get free upgrade from Windows 7 to 10.  You may like to refer to this post and give that a try if your hardware is compatible: https://accountants-community.intuit.com/questions/1853738-windows-7-not-compatible-with-proseries-2...
