Solar Energy credit on expanded solar system

Drphibes

Hi All,

Client took solar credit on the initial installation of their solar PV system and now, years later, are doubling the number of panels for the system.  Can they take the credit on the cost of expanding their solar system for 2022?  Internet search really does not address this issue.  Thanks in advance!

The IRS covers additions and improvements. As long as the new property qualifies, it is eligible. Basically, you would be treating this as System #1 and System #2. Anything that was already installed cannot be included in this new round of "placed in service."
