Social Security Tips Issue with W-2 Entry

Lacerte isn't automatically computing social security withheld correctly when a W-2 has SS wages in Box 3 AND SS Tips in Box 7.

The correct amount populates intially, but when SS Wages are changed to match the W-2, the SS withheld decreases.  In the past, when the SS Tips were entered the SS withheld then changed back to the correct amount.

It is automatically populating SS withheld on JUST the SS wages, not on the combined SS wages plus SS tips.

So the amount shown as SS Withheld is too low.

I'm not sure when this happened; but it was before today's (3.28.19) update.

I had my colleague who uses Lacerte test this situation too, and she's getting the same erroneous result.  So we are either both insane (good possibility) or there's a glitch/change from the prior way of entering W-2 info.

I'm not sure what the real impact might be....and have to leave for a dinner appointment.   And it's easy to just key in the correct number; but we haven't HAD to in the past (this year, or for the last 30 plus years....)

Just a heads up for everyone.
