Montana efiling - do you really have to scan in the 1099s?

In the diagnostics for a Montana part year return it says "This return includes <cap gains/dividends/interest/etc> on form 2. Montana requires all supporting forms or schedules to be attached. Attach a copy of the 1099-B to the Montana return if applicable.

Wouldn't it receive the info from the federal?

Hello @SBradleyTSHB ,

Each state sets their own requirements for what is required to be sent with the tax return. If you are attaching files to the IRS return, there is a checkbox to send the PDF attachment with the Montana return. While the diagnostic you reference is Informational in nature (which would not prohibit you from filing electronically), it is recommended to attach the documents to avoid potential inquiry from the state.
