Fiscal Year C Corp

cambyses - 10
Level 1

I e-filed an initial C Corp through 2022 Lacerte with fiscal year ending 10/31/22 and was accepted and there is no problem per IRS Practitioners line agent.

The issue is 2023 Lacerate INCORRECTLY shows year end 10/31/24

I have spoken ( 30 minute wait) with two Lacerte support individuals and could not resolve the issue.

Please Advise?

You use the software for the start of the fiscal year.  So 11/1/22 - 10/31/23 would be filed in the 2022 software.  Some software can't handle a second filing in the same tax year and you have to file on paper.  Not sure about Lacerte, they might be smart enough to take a second 2022 filing.  I'm assuming your first partial year started and ended in 2022.

The initial return, if the Corp began in  2021/ended 2022 should have been filed using the 2021 software.

IF the Corp began in 2022 & ended 2022 (i.e. a short year) then 2022 software was correct.

And nope, Lacerte won't allow efiling two (same FEIN) using the 2022 software.
