    Can I efile a Federal return and then efile NYS at a later date?

    Yes. In the EF wizard right click on NY and choose send directly to state tax authority. Then uncheck NY and you can send the federal only. Then when you are ready to send the state return you can run the EF wizard again and send only NY.
