The following diagnostic is generating: e-file: Form 760PY, page 1, State and Local Income Taxes cannot exceed Itemized Deductions paid while a Virgina Resident. If I enter the VA income tax withholding and previous year balance due paid in the VA part-year screen it does not resolve the diagnostic, but creates a different one - both are critical diagnostics that I can't resolve

Are you exceeding $10,000?

The total VA taxes paid in for 2023 are $9317. I found another post from last year where a tax pro was having a similar issue and ended up having to suppress the diagnostic (with Lacerte's help). Initially that preparer was entering -1 in the override which cleared the diagnostic, but caused Lacerte not to generate the VA schedule A/CG, which ultimately caused a VA e-file reject. He ended up resolving it by removing the override and suppressing the critical diagnostic which allowed the VA return to finally be accepted. We'll see as I'm not too sure of the actual logistics of getting this done. I'll likely give Lacerte a call in the next day or two to make sure I'm understanding the solution correctly and not causing more problems in the long run by trying to force something.
