Starting in 2017 ProSeries can mask Personally Identifiable Information (PII). ProSeries Basic can mask data on-screen, ProSeries Professional can mask data on-screen and when printing.

Before you start:

  • Masking is available for the Preparer Copy and the Client Copy of the returns.
  • Masking isn't available for the Filing Copy.
  • The masking settings apply to both tax returns printed to paper and to tax returns printed (or saved) to PDF.
  • At the request of federal and state taxing agencies, all tax forms with masked PII will be watermarked to help ensure that the printed tax returns with masked PII aren't mailed to the tax agencies in error. Forms will include a watermark that says "DO NOT MAIL - Data Masked" that can't be removed.
