Data Conversion in Right Networks for Intuit Hosting

SOLVEDby IntuitLacerte TaxUpdated July 13, 2022

This article will help you convert data from a competitor tax software in the Right Networks hosted environment of Lacerte and ProSeries. For information on which programs and data types can be converted, see Lacerte data conversion or ProSeries data conversion.

Creating a backup in a ConversionData folder

See the Ready to submit your data? section of the data conversion site for the product you are converting to:

You'll need to follow the steps for the competitor to create a backup before moving the files into the hosted environment to submit for data conversion.

Placing your ConversionData folder in the hosted environment

  1. Right-click on the ConversionData folder that you created following the steps for the competitor and from Send To choose Compressed Zipped Folder.
  2. Outside of the hosted environment, sign in to the Right Networks File Manager.
  3. Click on the blue Upload button.

  6. Highlight the zipped folder then click Open.
  7. Click Upload to begin transferring the data to the hosted environment.
  1. In the hosted environment, open File Explorer and browse to your I:\ drive.
  2. Highlight the uploaded ConversionData zipped folder.
  3. Select the Compressed Folder Tools Extract tab that appears.
  4. Click on the Extract all button.
  1. Copy the extracted ConversionData folder.
    • You can use Ctrl+C (keyboard shortcuts work by default in the hosted environment when it's maximized) or select the Home tab in File Explorer and use the Copy button.
  2. Browse to the H:\ drive.
  3. Click on the View tab in File Explorer and check Hidden items.
  4. Open the Settings folder.
  5. Paste the ConversionData folder.
    • You can use Ctrl+or select the Home tab in File Explorer and use the Paste button.

Run the Tax Data Conversion Wizard

Data conversion is meant to help you move forward with the new tax year, bringing over information from the prior year. These requests get sent through the newest year of your tax program.

  1. In the hosted environment, open the Lacerte or ProSeries program.
  2. From the Import menu, select Client Data Conversion and choose Submit Client Data For Conversion.
  3. You'll be prompted to sign in again with your Lacerte/ProSeries login.
  4. Follow the steps on the screen to upload your data.
    • Allow one business day for most conversion requests.
    • Lacerte only: Lacerte gives the option to Select the Tax Year to convert to, this will default to the newer year. The only reason we'd suggest converting to the older year, is when you plan to send the client an organizer. When they are converted to that older year additional steps will be needed.

See About the Data Conversion Wizard for more details on the wizard.

Importing the converted files

See How to download and restore converted client files in Lacerte (unless you chose to restore into the older year for organizers) or Downloading and transferring converted client files in ProSeries for the steps to loading the converted files.
