Using Intuit Tax Advisor for those without Lacerte or ProConnect Tax

SOLVEDby Intuit1Updated June 08, 2023

Intuit Tax Advisor only starts a plan using a tax return from Lacerte or ProConnect Tax as a baseline. If you don't already have one of these products, the following steps will help you with getting started with Intuit Tax Advisor:

  1. Sign up for the free ProConnect Tax trial here.
  2. Identify which clients are ideal for tax planning/advisory:
    • 1040 clients only (Business owners or high net-worth individuals)
    • Single-state clients
  3. Enter all of the current year 1040 tax data for the selected test clients in ProConnect, this will be the data that you'll import into Intuit Tax Advisor to build out the tax plans.
    • This will be a lot of work, but will provide you with the data you need to import into Intuit Tax Advisor.
    • This will also help you get familiar with how to use ProConnect Tax so if/when you make the move of additional/all clients to ProConnect Tax, that transition will be more seamless.
    • When you first sign into ProConnect, you'll see a Welcome screen to help you get started. You can always select Welcome from the menu to get back to this screen. The following are also available to help you get started:
      • In ProConnect, expand the Help menu and select Training portal for how-to video content.
      • There are also how-to guides on the ProConnect Tax resources site here.
  4. Start your trial with 3 free Intuit Tax Advisor credits. Promotion subject to change. You can request your trial here.
    • After the order is processed, you can return to Intuit Tax Advisor and select a ProConnect Tax client and tax return and create your first trial tax plan.
