Moving Fixed Asset Manager (FAM) files to another computer

This article will show you how to move all the client information in ProSeries Fixed Asset Manager to a new computer.

Before you start:

  • This article references default installation paths and uses YY to reference the tax year in 20YY format. C: will always indicate the local drive and X: will always indicate the network drive.

Standalone installs

Follow these steps to move Fixed Asset Manager files to a another computer for a standalone install:

  1. Copy the FamWinYY folders on the local C:\ drive to a portable drive.
  2. Use the steps in this article to install Fixed Asset Manager from scratch on the new computer.
  3. Once installed, copy the FamWinYY folders from the portable drive to the C:\ drive on the new computer.
  4. Open Fixed Asset Manager on the new computer.
  5. If the clients don't show, go to the File menu, select Open Client, and open each client.

Network installs

Follow these steps to move FAM files to a another computer for a network install:

  1. Copy the FamWinYY folders on the local C:\ drive to a portable drive.
  2. Use the steps in this article to install Fixed Asset Manager from scratch on the new computer.
  3. Once installed, copy the FamWinYY folders from the portable drive to the new network drive.
  4. Install the workstation by opening the Setup.exe file under FamWinYYWKSTN on the new network drive.
  5. Open Fixed Asset Manager on the workstation.
  6. If the clients don't show, go to the File menu, select Open Client, and open each client.
