Please have it be automatic if not itemizing to take up to $300 of charitable contributions as an adjustment to income. Currently a Lacerte user has to use overrides to "forces the standard deduction". When you start to use overrides or force things in Lacerte, errors can occur. Example would be a client is taking standard deduction so the preparer forces the standard deduction so $300 charitable is taken as an adjustment to income. Later with more information the client provides additional information so they would be itemizing, the preparer could forget to go back to uncheck the box not to force standard deduction. This is problematic.
Please make it automatic to take up to $300 of charity if the taxpayer if taking the standard deduction.
