I'm in Southern Oregon where the recent Almeda and Obenchain fires destroyed over 2600 structures -mostly homes - in our county.  We have been declared a "Covered Disaster Area" by IRS and Oregon.  As such all deadlines from September 7th to December 31st have been extended to January 31st.  Typically IRS shuts down electronic filing at the end of each year for updating.  Given the widespread disaster declarations this year, has there been any news about whether the shutdown will still happen or if it may be delayed or shortened?

You are asking about the IRS' need to shut down for maintenance and update? They reopen, of course, so it's a temporary service denial condition.

The IRS has not posted an official date for the end of year shutdown.

Thank you.  Last year the shutdown was from November 16, 2019 to January 27, 2020.  There are currently 5 states plus Puerto Rico whose deadlines are extended beyond the usual mid-November shutdown, including California & Florida.  I just wanted to remind those in the affected areas that even though the due dates are extended, e-filing will likely not be available after mid-November.
