I have checked all input. This client has both IRAs and pensions. Some of the IRAs have the taxable amount listed and some don't, but for all of them the IRA amount is not included in 4a. Is this a bug, or something I don't understand?

The 1040 instructions say to not show an amount in 4a for IRAs that are fully taxable.

I realize now that is how it always was, but the IRA and Pensions line being combined make it look weird now, whereas before it didn't stand out as much.

Believe it or not, you are not the first to ask. Combining what was two lines in the past into one line this year has lots of folks thinking it just doesn't look right.
