Among other things, the State of Ohio required a Release from Administration from the Probate Court, an EIN for the estate (me as executor) and a signed W-9. I used my name and my address on the W-9 and signed it since I will be receiving the money. The State of Ohio now says the W-9 should contain his name on line 1. I told them how do you expect it signed - he's dead!

(b) vgm76, executor should be how it is signed.
(c) If you have any more questions, ask your attorney or paid preparer. You obviously don't seem to like free advise.

This is a forum for TAX Professionals, to assist one another with Intuit software.
YOU are obviously not a TAX pro, and are in to biting the hand of those who attempted to help you.
As you are a DIYer, which is against the intent of this forum, I am locking this thread.
Good luck - I believe there are several on-line place for you to get your free advice/advise /S
I am sorry for your loss, but there is no need to be rude to the volunteers here who have tried to help. (who BTW, owe you nothing).
@vgm76
Oh...and I forgot to add that @George4Tacks is the THIRD most prolific poster/helper on this forum. And he is quite modest and humble, as is evidenced by the number of helpful votes he has received over the year for all the * F R E E * help he has given to the professional (!) tax preparers asking for assistance on the forum.

Line 1 - "Estate of vgm's father's name"
P.S. I don't think John Smith is related to you. Maybe IRonMaN could help you to do the 1041 for this estate.

Everybody seems to be unhelpful here. Maybe you should pay someone that can provide you with helpful help.
