When I try to use "update return with Quickbooks data" in the drop down box, the description is "grey" instead of "black". I click on it, but nothing happens. Is there something else I need to turn on to get this to light up "black" so it works?

It appears intuit has deemed your version of Quick books obsolete for importation. The 2021 Proseries will only import from Quick books 2020 and subsequent. You will have to tell your client to pay for the upgrade or keypunch the data and charge your client. In any case the client will pay.

I have QuickBooks 2019 so it explains why Pro-Series has update with QuickBooks data greyed. Guess I'll just run reports and input the information.

This is marked solved by updating software versions but for me, update Return with QuickBooks Data is grey even with the versions matching. After several hours with pro-series on-line support, I figured the issue myself. It seems to be obscure and due to a recent (2021?) change. Looks like each time you open the return from home base, one needs t explicitly authorize it to import from QB. This is done by going to QB File -> Utils -> Export menu and choosing "Balances to proseries tax 2021". Then switch screen to Proseries and continue from there. It took me several days to figure this out! Hope this helps others
