Don't think the omission of F.8867 alone will lead to a reduction in the tax refund for CTC.  After all, the penalty for omission is imposed on the preparer and not taxpayer.

You client should have received a notice for the adjustment.  If your client didn't receive any, may be it's time to check with the IRS.
