I am building a new PC for a client and contemplating using more modern pathing for applications and data:
Applications:
C:\Program Files (x86) - 2015 and earlier (32 bit)
C:\Program Files - 2016 and newer (64 bit).
Data:
C:\Users\[user]\Documents\Lacerte\[YY]Tax.
When Lacerte 2020 rolls out, will the install automatically default to the above pathing or will I need to make adjustments?
Are there any other got-chas or know issues with changing these paths?
I can live with the old DOS path for the application, but the data really needs be on another drive for easy (system) backup.

I don't remember if it defaults to prior year paths but you get the opportunity to see the path where it wants to go and you can change it. I've never had trouble directing the program and data paths where I want.
Lacerte user since the 1990s.

Makes sense to keep data files separate from program files. You can follow the instructions in this article to set up the data path for all machines: https://accountants-community.intuit.com/articles/1861960-set-up-or-change-the-data-path-in-lacerte
If you, for some reason, want to change this machine-by-machine, you can find this within Lacerte under Settings / Master Options / Setpup / Program Options.
