Active duty military client who is a resident of Texas, but he was stationed in New York all of 2018.Do I have to file a Texas state return or just a New York return?

Neither. There is no such thing as a Texas individual income tax return. Your client knows this. He only has to file NY if he has NY taxable income - not military wages and not investment income.

I'm in a totally different state and I forgot a bout Texas not having income tax.  Thanks for the reminder!
