I have an Illinois taxpayer with a non-resident wage earning spouse. Federal is MFJ and I've split the returns for taxpayer's MFS Illinois return. Illinois does not allow exemptions (Line 10) when Federal is MFJ and AGI greater than $500k, which is the situation. It will allow the exemptions if federal is MFS and taxpayer's AGI is < $250k, which is the situation. The problem is that Lacerte thinks the Federal is MFS (because of the split), when it is actually MFJ, and is giving the $2325 exemptions when it is not allowed by Illinois. I've yet to find an override. Any recommendations?

Go to Screen 3 - Miscellaneous Info./Direct Deposit. In Section Illinois Miscellaneous, check the box for Suppress exemption for IL MFS return when Federal MFJ AGI over exemption limit.

Thank you, exactly what I needed. Sometimes, it's like finding a needle in a haystack.
