Filing 2014 return. Note it's too late to get refund. However can the overpayment be applied to 2015? Thanks

refund = overpayment
overpayment = refund
2014 = screwed

Not unless, for some reason, your client had made tax payment(s) subsequent to the due date of the return and within 2 years of the claim now.  But then, even that refund would be limited to the overpayment related to the payment(s) made within 2 years.
