How to remove and reinstall PDF printer drivers for Lacerte and DMS

There are situations where it's useful to completely remove and reinstall the Lacerte and/or DMS PDF Printer Drivers to fix various issues.

Option 1 - Run the DMS Printer Repair tool from Lacerte Tool Hub

  1. Close Lacerte.
  2. Download the Lacerte Tool Hub Install file. Save the file somewhere you can easily find it (like your Downloads folder or your Windows desktop).
  3. Open the file you downloaded (lacertetoolhub_setup.exe).
  4. Follow the on-screen steps to install and agree to the terms and conditions.
  5. When the install finishes, double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the tool hub.

If you can't find the icon, do a search in Windows for Lacerte Tool Hub and select the program.

  1. Open the Lacerte Tool Hub.
  2. Select Printing on the left.
  3. Click on DMS Printer Repair.

  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to run the DMS Printer Repair tool.

Option 2 - Manually troubleshoot the PDF printer drivers

  1. Hold down the Windows Key + R on your keyboard to open the Run application.
  2. Type Control Printers and click OK.
  3. Locate the DMS PDF Printer drivers.
  4. Right-click and choose Remove Device.
  5. Locate the Lacerte Tax PDF 4.0 drivers.
  6. Right-click and choose Remove Device.
    • In some cases, the drivers will be stacked on other printer drivers or each other. In this case:
      1. Right-click on a stack of drivers.
      2. Choose Delete Print Queue.
      3. Choose the appropriate driver to remove.
  7. Proceed with the next set of steps to install the Lacerte and DMS printer drivers.
 

If Lacerte 2015 or later is installed, go to "Follow these steps to install Lacerte and DMS Printer Drives if Lacerte 2015 or later is installed:" instead.

  1. Open File Explorer from the Start menu.
  2. Browse to C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Lacerte Shared.
  3. Run the file 20YY Lacerte WebSetup or WebSetupYY.exe.
    • YY represents the two-digit year of the program in 20YY format.
    • Usually, you can run the file by double-clicking and choosing Run as administrator, or using the Run application (Windows Key + R).
  4. Follow the steps in the installation wizard.
  1. Open File Explorer.
  2. Browse to C:\Program Files (x86)\Intuit\DMS.
  3. Locate the DMSSetup.exe file.
  4. Run the DMSSetup.exe file.
    • If the file isn't in this location, run the DMSSetup.exe file from the DMS Database.
    • Usually, you can run the file by double-clicking and choosing Run as administrator, or using the Run application (Windows Key + R).
  1. Close Lacerte and DMS.
  2. Hold down the Windows Key+ E to open File Explorer.
  3. Navigate to C:\Lacerte\YYtax\lacertepdf_450_tool.exe and highlight lacertepdf_450_tool.exe.
    • YY represents the two-digit year of the program in 20YY format.
  4. Right-click and choose Run as administrator.
  5. Wait for the program to run. Press any key to continue will be displayed when it is finished.
