Common questions for New Hampshire income in Lacerte

Select a frequently asked question below regarding New Hampshire income to view the solution.

For an individual (1040) return:

  1. Go to Screen 11, Interest Income or Screen 12, Dividend Income.
  2. Locate the field labeled Reason dividends are nontaxable to NH.
  3. Select the applicable reason code.

For a fiduciary (1041) return:

  1. Go to Screen 15, Interest Income or Screen 16, Dividend Income.
  2. Locate the field labeled Reason dividends are nontaxable to NH.
  3. Select the applicable reason code.
  1. Go to Screen 3, Miscellaneous Info./Direct Deposit.
  2. Scroll down to the New Hampshire Miscellaneous section.
  3. Enter a 1 in the field labeled Form DP-10: blank=when applicable, 1=force, 2=suppress [O].

The New Hampshire Business Enterprise Tax return, Form BET, is required for some Schedule Cs that exceed the gross receipts or enterprise value tax base threshold.

  1. Go to Screen 16, Business Income (Sch. C).
  2. Enter the information for each business, making sure to select the appropriate entry for Taxpayer, Spouse, or Joint.
  3. Go to Screen 54, State Tax.
  4. Select the New Hampshire Business Return Information section.
  5. In the General Information section, choose one of the following options for Sole Proprietorship Return Type:
    • Blank=separate entities
    • 1=taxpayer: If only the taxpayer needs to file a business return, enter a 1.  The program uses all amounts assigned to the taxpayer when completing the BET and BPT.
    • 2=spouse: If only the spouse needs to file a business return, enter a 2. The program will use all amounts assigned to the spouse when completing the BET and BPT.
    • 3=joint: If the taxpayer and spouse jointly own the entity, enter a 3. The program will combine all amounts and complete the business return.
  6. Complete any additional information required on Screen 54.311, NH Business Return Information.
  1. Go to Screen 55, Part-Yr./Nonres. Information.
  2. Select New Hampshire Business Tax Apportionment in the St. PY/Nonres. box on the left side of the screen.
  3. Enter the sales and payroll information in the Sales and Payroll Factors section.
  4. Enter the property information under Property Factors for Everywhere and Within New Hampshire.
  5. Enter other applicable information under Additional Information.

Override fields are available under the Business Enterprise Tax Apportionment BET-80 section of this screen. If you need additional schedules, click the Add button in the Apport. Sched. section on the left panel.
