  • ProSeries failed to license products. An error occurred in the secure channel support. Error Code 5-67186557.

Understanding secure channel errors

Secure channel errors may occur if you haven't enabled Microsoft Edge browser settings to use the correct version of the Transport Layer Security (TLS) protocol.

Lacerte products no longer support the TLS 1.0 protocol. As of 2018, many ProSeries products, including prior years, have been updated to reflect this change.

Update all versions of ProSeries products to make sure they have the latest TLS protocol available.

How to enable the correct version of TLS:

  1. Close ProSeries.
  2. In the Windows Taskbar, enter Internet Options.
  3. Select Internet Options.
  4. In the Internet Properties window, select the Advanced tab.
  5. Scroll to the Security section. Selecting the SSL 3.0 checkbox in Window's Internet Properties pop-up to resolve Secure Channel Support errors in ProSeries Basic.
  6. Select the box labeled Use SSL 3.0.
  7. Select OK.
  8. Open ProSeries and try to e-file, check acknowledgements, or license.

In another reported instance, after checking SSL 3.0 after resetting IE, the checkboxes unmarked themselves. The boxes were rechecked and then the acknowledgements were retrieved successfully.

This can also be caused by Anti-Virus and Firewall settings.
