Resolving Printer not activated error code -30 in ProSeries 2012 and prior

SOLVEDby Intuit2Updated December 01, 2023

Before you start:

  • This article will help you if you receive the error in ProSeries 2012 or earlier. These steps won't solve printing issues in ProSeries 2013 or newer.
  • This article references default installation paths and uses YY to reference the tax year in 20YY format. C: will always indicate the local drive and X: will always indicate the network drive.

If you are trying to print to PDF and receive the error:

  1. Close ProSeries.
  2. In the Windows search field type Printers.
  3. Select Printers & scanners
  4. Find ProSeries TYYY PDF Printer for the year impacted.
  5. Select ProSeries TYYY PDF Printer and then Remove device.
  6. Close the Printers & scanners window.
  7. Open Windows File Explorer.
  8. Browse to the C:\ProWinYY\32bit folder.
  9. Run PSInstall.exe.
  10. Wait for10 seconds, then close the 32bit folder
  11. Open ProSeries and print to PDF

If you are trying to print to a printer and not a PDF follow these steps:

  1. Close ProSeries.
  2. In the Windows search field type Printers.
  3. Select Printers & scanners.
  4. If checked, uncheck Let Windows manage my default printer.
  5. Select the print you want to use and select the Manage button.
  6. Select Set as default.
  7. Open ProSeries.
  8. From the File menu, select Print Options.
  9. Select Printer, PDF, and DMS Setup.
  10. Change the Tax Forms Printer and Client Letters/Invoice/Client Checklist Printer to the printer selected as the Windows default.
  11. Print the return.

ProSeries Fixed Asset Manger does not support printing to PDF. This error happens if the printer is set to one that is not support, like the ProSeries PDF Printer. To resolve this you would need to print to a physical printer, or a 3rd party PDF printer such as Adobe, BullZip, PDF995 or DMS.

  1. Open Fixed Asset Manager.
  2. From the File menu, select Print Setup.
  3. Under Printer Name field, select the correct printer from the list.
  4. Press OK.
