How to generate Arizona Form 140NR Nonresident Personal Income Tax in Lacerte

To generate Arizona Form 140NR, Nonresident Personal Income Tax, follow the steps for the applicable module:

Individual

To select the composite return box on Form 140NR, Line 13:

  1. Go to Screen 55, Part-Yr/Nonres. Information.
  2. In the field Residency status (Ctrl+T), select Composite return from the dropdown options.

Arizona composite returns must be paper filed. The following diagnostic will generate when a a composite has been checked on Form 140NR:

  • e-file: AZ does not allow composite returns for electronic filing. This return will need to be paper filed (ref. #13417).

Partnership

The Arizona composite form is not filed with the partnership return, and is not available in the partnership module.

To indicate the Arizona Composite Form 140NR will be filed on Form 165:

  1. Go to Screen 37, Miscellaneous Information.
  2. In the first section, select the box Composite return.

This will trigger Lacerte to answer Form 165. Line B as Yes. Arizona Composite Form 140NR is available in the individual module.

S-Corporation

The Arizona composite form isn't filed with the S-Corporation return, and isn't available in the S-Corporation module.

To indicate the Arizona Composite Form 140NR will be filed on Form 120S:

  1. Go to Screen 42, Miscellaneous.
  2. Scroll down to the Arizona Miscellaneous section.
  3. Select the box Composite return being filed.

This will trigger the program to answer Form 120S, Line E as Yes. Arizona Composite Form 140NR is available in the individual module.
