Amending a partnership return in Lacerte

Select the applicable instructions below to find out how to amend Form 1065, US Return of Partnership Income. Refer to the Instructions for Form 1065-X for information on who should file Form 1065-X.

 

Before amending the partnership return, you should create a copy of the original file for amendment. Refer to this article for instructions on copying a client in Lacerte.  

  1. Go to Screen 70, Amended Return or AAR (1065X).
  2. Check the Amending federal return (MANDATORY) box.
  3. Press Ctrl+E in the Explanation of changes (Ctrl+E) field.
  4. Enter the reason for amending the return and click OK.
    • This statement can be found from the Forms tab as Amended Explanation.
  5. Enter the applicable changes in the appropriate screen(s).
  1. Go to Screen 70, Amended Return or AAR (1065X).
  2. Under the Miscellaneous section, check the Amending federal return (MANDATORY) box.
  3. Press Ctrl+E in the Explanation of changes (Ctrl+E) field.
  4. Enter the reason for amending the return and click OK.
  5. Scroll down to the General Information (Form 1065X) section.
  6. Enter a 1 or 2 in Filing Form 1065X: 1=amended return, 2=AAR (MANDATORY).
    • Form 1065-X can't be used to amend a previously e-filed return.
  7. Select the Type of Amended Return / AAR (MANDATORY).
  8. Enter the Beginning year date and Ending year date (if not the current tax year).
  9. Complete any other applicable information in this section.
  10. Enter the As Originally Report amounts in the following sections:
    • Income (Loss)
    • Deductions
    • Self-Employment
    • Credits
    • Foreign Transactions
    • Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) Items
    • Other Information
  11. Enter the applicable changes in the appropriate screen(s). 
    • The fields under the Correct Amount [O] column are overrides and can be used if you don't want Lacerte to calculate the changes.
 

If you e-file an amended return and later need to make further corrections by filing another amended return, Lacerte will still allow you to e-file the subsequent amended return.
