  4. In the Download Converted Data pop-up, select the box for the batch you want to download.

After you've downloaded the converted client files, the program will ask to close and reopen. Once you've reopened ProSeries, the program will begin the process of transferring the converted client files.

Tax Data Conversion files are migrated to the prior year's data format so they can be transferred into the following year of ProSeries by using the Transfer function. The steps below will guide you to transfer from the folder where the migrated files are staged into Organizer for 1040.

Before you start:

  • This article references default installation paths and uses YY to reference the tax year in 20YY format. C: will always indicate the local drive and X: will always indicate the network drive.

Follow these steps to transfer the files:

  1. From the File menu, select Transfer and choose Transfer Clients.
  2. Under Step 1 - Select the type of files to transfer, select 2021 Form 1040 to 2022 Organizer.
  3. Under Step 2 - Transfer data files from, click Browse and locate C:\ProWin22\CompConversion if the path isn't already correct.
    • For ProSeries Basic Edition: C:\BasWin22\ComConversion.
  4. Click OK to begin the transfer.
  5. If the Step 3 - Transfer data files to field isn't already set to its proper folder location where your current year tax data is stored, click Browse to set it to the correct folder location.
    • If ProSeries is installed as a standalone, the data path will be C:\ProWin22\22Data.
    • In a network installation, the ProSeries data path will usually be X:\ProSeries\ProNet22\22Data.
  6. For Step 4 - Select clients, click the Select All button.
    • This will highlight all of the tax files (in the screen to the right) that will be transferred.
    • If you prefer not to transfer all of the tax clients at this time, hold the Ctrl key instead and manually select each client that you want to transfer.
  7. For Step 5 - Begin transfer, click the Transfer button.
  8. When the transfer process is complete, a Transfer Log will appear. Exit the screen when you're finished.
  9. Review the tax information that was transferred.
  10. Prepare your client's Organizer as normal.

Tax data originating from the migration process will also to the transfer into Form 1040 Individual.

Agent Notes: The automated Data Conversion utility stores converted file in C:\ProWinYY\CompConversion. If a new customer needs to transfer a prior year client to an organizer, you'll need to transfer the prior year file from there.
