How to resolve ProConnect diagnostic Ref 9843 and Ref 9844 - Form 8453-EO must be attached

This article will help if one of the following e-file critical diagnostic is generating:

• e-file: PDF attachment: A PDF of the signed Form 8453-EO must be attached to the return, when not using the e-file PIN signature option. Using an e-file PIN signature option to electronically sign the return eliminates the need to scan and attach a PDF copy of Form 8453-EO. (ref. #9843)
• Extension: PDF attachment: A PDF file of the signed Form 8453-EO must be attached to the extension, when not using the e-file PIN signature option. Using an e-file PIN signature option to electronically sign the extension eliminates the need to scan and attach a PDF copy of Form 8453-EO. (ref. #9844)

These diagnostics will generate if:

• The PIN signature option hasn't been setup.
• Form 8453-EO is generating (e-file PIN signature is suppressed).

To set the PIN signature option per client file:

1. From the Input Return tab, go to General ⮕ Electronic Filing.
2. Locate the Paperless Filing-Overrides section.
3. Enter a 1 in e-file PIN signature: 1= when applicable, 2= suppress [Override].

To attach a signed copy of Form 8453-EO:

1. From the Input Return tab, go to General ⮕ Electronic Filing ⮕ E-File Attachment in the top right.
2. Attach PDF.
3. Select Browse Files and locate the scanned PDF.
4. Select the document and select Open.
5. Enter a 1 or 2 in 1=Form 8453-TE (990/EZ/PF, 990T, 4720), 2=Form 8453-TE (8868)
