Troubleshooting ProSeries Fatal Application Error: Exiting Application

SOLVEDby IntuitProSeries Basic1Updated April 22, 2022

When entering data in Intuit ProSeries, the program closes and displays the following error:

"Proseries Fatal Application Error: Exiting Application"

How do I resolve this error?

If the error occurs entering employer information for a W-2 or 1099, delete the EINDB files. The instructions below are for standalone installations.

Follow these steps to delete the EINDB files:

  1. Open File Explorer.
  2. Browse to the C:\ProWinYY folder.
  3. Open the Common folder.
  4. Locate the files Eindb.cdx and Eindb.dbf.
  5. Right-click on each of the files and choose Delete.
  6. Click Yes to delete the files.
  7. Reopen ProSeries.
  8. Make sure the issue is resolved.

What if the error still appears?

If the error still appears, rename the ProWinYY folder and reinstall the program.

Follow these steps if the program is installed on a network:

  1. Open File Explorer.
  2. Open the local C: drive.
  3. Right-click on the ProWinYY folder and select Rename.
  4. Add the word -old to the end of the name so that the folder now reads ProWinYY-old.
  5. Press Enter to finish the renaming process.
  6. Reinstall the workstation:
    1. Browse to the ProNetYYWKSTN folder on your network drive.
    2. Open the Setup.exe file.
    3. Follow the installation wizard.

Follow these steps if the program is installed as a standalone:

  1. Download the program from the ProSeries website:
  2. Enter your login information and click the Sign In button.
  3. Once the Dashboard displays click on the Download Products link.
  4. Change the Tax Year and Tax Product Family dropdown menus to the appropriate products you're installing.
  5. Scroll down to the product you need and click on the Download button to the right.
    • Choose only the Federal 1040 for each year at this stage.
  6. Run the file you download and confirm any prompts for permission.
  7. Check the box for the 1040 (at minimum) and follow the wizard through the install process.
    • It may say certain forms aren't available, but it'll download them at the end during the updates.
  8. When the program finally opens, close it and browse to the C:\ProWinYY-old folder.
  9. Copy the YYData and HomeBase folders from here to the new C\:ProWinYY folder.
  10. Select Confirm to replace the existing files.
  11. After all files have been copied, open ProSeries.
